Engines still running in milestone year for Mansfield company

Fort’s Industrial Engines in Mansfield has recently celebrated 90 years and three generations of running their family owned business.

Friends and family who came by to help celebrate the occasion remarked on the tough work facing the business, and how dedicated the family has been to keep it going all these years.

The business was founded in 1926, long before business card printing services were used as a way for businesses and employees to network. Brothers George and Warren Fort started the business when they landed in Mansfield after a trip from NY. Warren was the businessman and George the mechanic.

When the auto industry evolved into a bigger business, the brothers worked on car engines and also began selling auto parts to adapt to the changing times. Warren’s son Ned eventually took over the business, followed by Neds’ son John after the death of his father in 1991.

Due to the number of changes in technology over the past few decades, the business has had to adapt over the years to changes in the industry. It started out as a battery and electrical servicing company and also did repairs on radios with vacuum tubes.

Today, the business provides a vast variety of services including engine repair, diagnostic service, electrical systems, and routine maintenance on autos, trucks and RVs. It also services outdoor power equipment and small engines.
