Council gives green light to housing development

Many new residents are expected to come to Mansfield thanks to newly approved housing project.

The Mansfield City Council voted unanimously in favor of a zoning change allowing developers to put up 427 townhouses off West Broad Street, right after a similar development with 128 units was given the greenlight to build at Walnut Creek. Brochure printing can be used to present such projects.

The plot was previously zoned as a predevelopment district, but council members changed the zoning of the 121-acre plot to a planned development. The newer development will have community business installations as well as the homes. Once the necessary changes were approved, attention was diverted to another proposed development.

Skorburg Company of Dallas hopes to develop 14 acres of land near Clayton Chandler Park and convert it into townhouses and a commercial development. Council members asked the developer about the project and made a few provisions to the plans before giving their approval, one of which was ditching the playground, since there is already a park nearby. The developer also has to provide the final digital renderings of what the townhouses will look like.

The two-story townhouses are set to have two or three bedrooms. They will cover a minimum of 1,500 square feet and retail at close to $400,000 each. If the project is approved on the second reading, the developers expect to complete construction in 2024.
