The City of Mansfield, in conjunction with Animal Control, is joining with 25 other partner shelters in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to find homes for as many animals as possible in one day—appropriately titled Empty the Shelter Day.
Adoption fees will be waived for Mansfield residents, although potential adoptees should be aware that other fees for services such as implanting tracking and/or identification chips may be applied. There will also be a city license fee, charges for a rabies vaccination coupon, and the costs associated with other vaccinations. Also, all unneutered adopted animals must be neutered within the first six months after the adoption.
Animals can be viewed online to get some idea of what is available, though shelters generally recommend visiting a shelter personally before making any decisions. According to the Mansfield shelters’ website, people adopt more cats than they do dogs and there are many other kinds of animals available as well. The shelter also notes that even those who do not wish to adopt are free to donate time or cash. Visitors to the shelter may wish to bring cameras, as animals make popular subjects for photos and consequentially postcard printing.
The adoption day event will be held this Saturday, August 16, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Animal and Control Shelter at 407 Industrial Blvd, Mansfield.
