Symphony concert scheduled in Lewisville

A concert is on the schedule to see the summer out in style.

The Lewisville Lake Symphony will be presenting two symphonies to end its current season—Symphony No. 3 by Johannes Brahms, and Symphony No. 8 by Franz Schubert. This is the 36th year the orchestra has been bringing classical music to audiences in North Texas.

Brahms Third Symphony is also known as the “Heroic Symphony” and has four movements. The work premiered in 1883, played by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The third movement will be familiar to most concert goers, as it has been used extensively in film and television productions. The lyrical, melancholy music was used in “Undercurrent,” a film noir released in 1946 that starred Katherine Hepburn. The music is heard in many scenes, and during the opening credits. More recently, it featured in the film “Kill Your Darlings,” released in 2013.

Symphony No. 8 by Schubert is popularly called the “Unfinished Symphony,” and has only two movements. Like the Brahms, Schubert's work will be familiar to many, and has also appeared in a wide range of films, from 1931's “Dracula” to the television series “Legend of the Galactic Heroes” in 1996.

The concert will take place at the MCL Grand in Lewisville on August 28, at 7:30 pm. This concert has been rescheduled from its original April 17 date, and brochure printing can be used to create attractive programs for this and similar events.
