As part of the “Keep Lewisville Beautiful” effort, a Garden Secrets class entitled “Composting” will be held soon, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
Daniel Cunningham, a horticulturist at Texas A&M, in their AgriLife's Water University, will be leading the class. The university is focused on managing storm water and encouraging efficient water usage by giving public talks and demonstrations about native plants, foraging, edible landscapes, and composting. Cunningham speaks to both the general public and to professionals, providing information about water use in landscaping, considering everything from plant selection and garden design, to how to conserve water.
Compost, which is nutrient rich, is a great addition to any lawn or garden. People can buy it, but it's also possible to make compost, which is the focus of the class. Compost is made using materials that are often thrown out, such as leaves, cut grass, or food scraps. They are left to break down over a period of months, after which they can be used to enrich the soil.
The upcoming class will give attendees tips on the best methods for composting, including practical techniques. Cunningham will also share problem-solving ideas to help gardeners keep their composting systems running efficiently. Organizers of classes like this can work with Print shops to create course materials.
The “Composting” class is set for February 28, from 6.00 pm until 8.00 pm, at the MCL Grand on North Charles Street.
