Fishing is a pastime that combines relaxation with conservation and learning where one’s food comes from, and a Houston activity planned with kids in mind will introduce the hobby to a new crop of fishers.
A Kids Fishing Clinic has been organized for Willow Waterhole, and while all ages are welcome, it's geared towards those age 5 and up. Parents must remain on site with any attendees 14 and under, and it's free to register.
The attendees, along with their chaperones, will be taught the basics of fishing, including how to cast their line, tips for fish identification and other skills, and no previous experience is needed. The rods and bait will be provided, and sunscreen and a bottle of water are both recommended. The session is being co-hosted by the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension 4-H Harris County and the Willow Waterhole Greenspace Conservancy. It will run for four hours.
Fishing, boating and other clinics encourage kids to put down their devices and head outdoors, and they can also be a lot of fun. Stationery printers can provide Copies of handouts as well as certificates of completion that have been custom designed for the occasion.
This introduction to the joys of “tight lines” is scheduled to start at 1:00 pm on March 1st. If all the spots are filled, a wait list is available.
