Species from hummingbirds to hawks, roadrunners and more call Houston home, and a local event will explore ways to make them feel welcome.
Houston Botanic Garden and Houston Audubon will introduce the connection between native plants and birds, and both members and non-members are welcome to attend. It will be split between indoor and outdoor learning, and free parking will be available.
The activity will begin indoors, and during this portion of the session, they will discover how native plants can be beautiful choices for the home garden and they come with big benefits. After this, the group will head outdoors to view and identify native plant species in the field. They will learn how they support local birds, and everyone can “dig in” by potting up their own native plant to keep. Everyone may want to bring a phone or camera as well as binoculars, if they have them. The activity will run for one and a half hours, starting at 5:30 pm.
An outdoor walking workshop can provide a deep-dive experience into nature-based topics. Organizers of events may choose to distribute promotional pens paired with Notepads so the attendees can jot down any points they feel are important.
Residents of Houston and the surrounding community that would like to learn how to make their feathered friends feel welcome may register now for this session, which is scheduled for August 8th. The Garden is located at One Botanic Lane.
