Festival brings the Caribbean to Texas

The 5th annual Caribbean Heritage Month Festival is taking place in a few days in Houston. It is presented by the Caribbean American Heritage Foundation of Texas (CAHFT).

The festival is set to feature all types of music, including Reggae, Soca, and Merengue. There will be traditional foods such as pelau, which is peas and rice, along with more than a dozen performances from Caribbean cultural groups, storytelling and dramatic readings.

There will also be a number of vendor booths that will be selling a variety of food, Caribbean-related merchandise, and arts and crafts such as handmade jewelry, clothing, and ceramics. Local community groups are also expected to be there to provide information about their programs and services.

For those in the city that want to help make this a successful event, they can still volunteer to take part and to provide help at a variety of booths.

With many of people of Caribbean descent, and also those who are interested in the culture, in Houston, they will no doubt make a point of attending this festival. To advertise in the community, local Print companies are often asked to provide products such as Flyers and Brochures.

The Caribbean Heritage Month Festival will be held at Jones Plaza on June 6 from 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm. Admission is $15 and free for children aged 12 and under. Call 713-783-5779 for more information.
