Degas exhibit comes to Houston

“Degas: a New Vision” will be on exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts beginning next month. This is the only showing that will take place in the United States.

The exhibition was developed in association with the National Gallery of Victoria in Australia, where it is currently showing.

There will be over 200 original works by Hilaire-Germain-Edgar Degas on display. These will include paintings, prints, and photographs created by the artist at the end of the 19th Century and the beginning of the 20th (Degas died in 1917). An exhibition catalog has also been produced, which will be available for purchase at the museum for $55.

A few related events will be happening around the exhibition. The main one will be the “Focus on Degas: A New Vision” workshop to be held on October 20 at the Law Building from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Tickets are $15. In addition, two seminars for middle to high school educators and elementary educators in the “Learning through Art” seminar series will take place in November.

No doubt plenty of graphic design and art enthusiasts from Houston will be sure to make this exhibition a high priority in their October schedule.

The exhibit will run from October 16 to January 8 at the Museum of Fine Arts Audrey Jones Beck Building. Admission is $15, $10 for seniors, and $7.50 for children between the ages of 13 and 18. Call 713-639-7843 to learn more about the exhibition.
