Viral tweet saves bakery in Houston
The value of social media has been demonstrated in the saving of a Houston bakery.
Hurricane Harvey hit Houston back in September, devastating large swathes of the city. Among the many small businesses this affected was La Casa Bakery and Café, which was in serious trouble before Jackie Garza took to Twitter to save her father’s eatery.
Garza tweeted repeatedly about the predicament facing the store. At that stage, the restaurant needed every customer it could get.
Garza described her motivation to ABC News:
The outcome of Garza’s Twitter appeal was unexpected. One of her efforts got 59,000 retweets and 47,000 likes, which led to a video being viewed a million times. She took the time to showcase shrimp quesadillas and Mexican pastries. Within just a couple of days, the worst of the crisis seemed to have passed.
Trinidad Garza, Jackie’s father, makes a lot of the food at the eatery himself. His small restaurant is one of many in Houston.
As this story shows, marketing services, whether online or offline, can make a big difference to the performance of firms in various economic sectors.

“I know all the hard work my parents put into this. They work from early in the morning until late at night, even though we close at 5 p.m. The quality of the food and the authenticity of it is amazing.”
