MLK Day plans already in place

The 9th Annual MLK Youth Parade has been scheduled for January in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. More than 200,000 spectators are expected to attend, and the event will also be broadcast, with viewership expected to exceed 4,000,000.

There will be 10 parade floats and 20 marching bands participating in the event. The MLK Youth Parade Announcer will be Jimmy Olson, and the co-lead in the parade will be the Stephen F. Austin High School Marching Band-Houston, Texas along with the Huntington High School Marching Band from Shreveport, Louisiana.

The MLK Parade Foundation is the organizing entity, the goal of which is to promote and support racial harmony through presenting related ideas and concepts. Building awareness of oneness is a focus for the group. Networking in local schools and other organizations by the administrators is a frequent effort.

Flyer printing could be ordered through a local printer to announce the upcoming events.

The theme of the organization is based on the message presented by Dr. King, Jr.; that of their being one race - the human race – and shared differences making up America’s strength.

The 9th Annual MLK Youth Parade will take place on January 17 beginning at noon. The parade will start in Mid-Town at San Jacinto Street and Elgin. It will proceed 0.7 miles with the duration expected to be 1.5 hours. Check-in time for participants is 10:00 am.
