Roaring Women, an upcoming event, will celebrate Women’s Equality Day in Houston.
It marks the 96th anniversary of the day that women in the United States were given the right to vote. The event is also a fundraising event for the League of Women Voters (LWV) Houston Area Education Fund.
The emcee for the evening will be Miya Shay and those attending are encouraged to wear 1920s period costumes. It will start off with a cocktail reception and then be followed by a speech by Nancy Sims about Houston’s Suffragette history. The evening will end up with a viewing of the film ‘Suffragette’ which was written by Abi Morgan, directed by Sarah Gauron and starred Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan, and Helena Bonham Carter.
Sponsorships are available for $150; sponsors will get reserved seating, recognition on signage at the event, and a mention in a slideshow loop before the film.
It is likely that any signage that will be used to thank the sponsors at the event will have been provided by a Houston printing company.
Roaring Women will take place at the Rice University Media Center on August 25 from 5:30 to 9:00 PM. Tickets are $35 each. To learn more about this event, or to become a sponsor, contact the League of Women Voters of the Houston Area at 713-784-2984.
