Houston workshop to take a page from Mother Nature

A workshop on offer for Houston educators will make it easier for them to invite nature into their classrooms.

A two-day intensive learning experience has been planned for the Gregory Lincoln Education Center. It will be a comprehensive experience, and along with the teachers, parents, and community organizers are encouraged to attend.

These professional development opportunities will equip the participants with knowledge and resources, and as it will be hands-on learning, everyone should expect to roll up their sleeves and dig in. They will explore gardening from planting to harvest, and they will then use what they have gathered to prepare a locally sourced lunch. The participants will find out how this learning can be incorporated into their lesson plans, and up to 12 continuing professional education (CPE) credits may be available.

At the end of the workshop, each registrant will go home with resources as well as online access to the Urban Harvest School Garden Guide. Hard copy learning materials for an activity like this will be on offer at local Stationery printers, and can help people keep on learning.

The Summer Edible Academy will take place on Tuesday, June 21 and Wednesday, June 22. Both days’ proceedings will begin at 9:00 am and wrap up at 3:00 pm, and the registration fee is $180 per person.
