This upcoming year in East Asia, which begins on February 5, is the Year of the Pig, and the city of Houston will be holding several events to celebrate.
One of the largest celebrations is set to be the 23rd annual Texas Lunar Festival. It will feature Lion and Dragon dances performed by the Shaolin Temple Cultural Society, opening ceremonies with many local dignitaries, and martial arts demonstrations. There will also be musical entertainment, belly dance performances, vendors, and Brazilian samba.
The next week will feature Lunar New Year: Family from the Asia Society Texas Center. There will be music, lion dancers, and arts and crafts. Children will be given red Envelopes while supplies last. Plenty of food and drink will also be available for purchase. The Huaxing Arts Group Houston will be performing at ticketed concerts; tickets cost $5 for Asia Society members and $10 for nonmembers.
Both of these events will likely attract many Houston residents. Organizers of such events might invest in flyer printing services from local Print companies to help spread the word.
The Texas Lunar Festival will be held at the Southern News Group Building on February 2 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission is free. Contact Jennifer Lopez at 281-983-8152 for more information.
The Lunary New Year: Family Day event will take place at the Asia Society Texas Center on February 9 from 12:00 to 4:00 PM. Admission is also free. To learn more, call 713-496-9901.
