Hands-on Houston workshop to teach fruit tree care

Growing stone or other tree fruits may be a lot easier than many might think, and a Houston workshop will help home growers get started.

Lantrip Elementary, which is located at 100 Telephone Road in Houston, will lend the use of its orchard to the participants in an in-the-field fruit tree care class being offered by Urban Harvest. The presenter will be Mickey Kleinhenz, who is a certified Permaculture Designer and Trainer and has an extensive background in horticulture.

The workshop will introduce tree care techniques such as mulching and pruning that can help lead to higher fruit yields and better plant health. Everyone will get some practice with the pruners, and while tools will be supplied, everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite secateurs as well as a sturdy pair of gloves. The attendees will also discover how they can care for trees that have been damaged by the weather.

It was noted by the organizers that everyone who plans on taking part will need to sign a liability waiver ahead of the event. Stationery printers will be able to prepare a wide variety of printed documents for event planners such as Letterheads, registration Forms, and sign-in sheets.

This introduction to the art and science of fruit tree growing will begin at 9:00 am on March 3. Tickets for the session are available for $40.
