The exhibition "Pompeii: The Exhibition" will be on display at the Houston Museum of Natural Science beginning this month, and it will continue until September.
It recalls and documents the disaster that fell on Pompeii, Italy on August 24 in the year 79 AD, when Mount Vesuvius erupted spewing lava and fire throughout the city.
The exhibit, which is on loan from the Naples National Archaeological Museum, features over 150 artifacts from Pompeii, such as frescoes, sculptures, and mosaics. Also included are armor, weapons, and everyday household items. There will also be dramatic reconstructions, a reproduction of the atrium in a Roman villa and a simulated eruption of the volcano.
The museum is open Monday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Admission to the exhibition is $15 for members, $30 for adults, and $21 for children.
No doubt many Houston residents will be interested in learning more about what happened, and about the people of Pompeii nearly 2,000 years ago. Local flyer printing companies are often asked to supply advertising materials to help spread the word about upcoming exhibitions.
The exhibition is on display at the Houston Museum of Natural Science as of next Friday, February 12, until Monday, September 6. For more information about this event, contact the museum at 713-639-4629, or visit the museum’s website.
