Butterflies have been collected and displayed for many centuries, and a Houston workshop will teach a new crop of fans how to orderly pin their specimens.
The Houston Museum of Natural Science offered the public various learning opportunities, and its Butterfly Pinning class will be led by an expert in the practice. It is limited to only those age 15 and up, and all minors will need to attend with an adult. No exceptions will be made to this rule.
The instructor for the class will discuss butterfly anatomy as well as how to identify a particular species. The ecological role of butterflies is also on the agenda, and after this, it will be time for the learners to gain experience with handling and spreading the wings of their specimen before pinning them to create a long lasting display. The workshop may be suitable for everyone from the entomology enthusiast to those who simply appreciate the beauty of nature. The supplies for the project will be provided.
