The exhibition "The Marzio Years: Transforming the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1982 - 2010" is opening late this month and it will continue until January of next year.
It will explore the improvements Peter C. Marzio made to the museum when he came on board in 1982. His achievements included expanding the collection from 14,000 to 62,000 pieces, purchasing land for new building such as the Beck building, and adding the Lillie and Hugh Roy Cullen Sculpture Garden.
The exhibit is highlighting some of his acquisitions and landmark initiatives. It will feature paintings by artists such as John Biggers, Rembrandt, and Andy Warhol. There will also be ceramics, photographs, constructive art, selected antiquities, and gold collections.
The museum has changed its hours due to COVID-19 protocols. It is currently open Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with a later opening time of 12:30 on Sundays. Tickets are $19 for adults, $16 for seniors, and $12 for college students and youth over the age of 13. Children, military, and members are admitted free of charge.
