Good compost can be a home gardener’s secret weapon, and Houston home horticulturalists who attend a local workshop will be able to learn how to prepare this soil amendment using a variety of methods.
The Betty and Jacob Friedman Holistic Garden will be the venue for a three-hour-long class that will introduce several different ways of making compost. The attendees will learn why this is important and how it can benefit gardens and reduce the pressure on local waste disposal systems.
The session will introduce both aerobic (in oxygen) and anaerobic (without oxygen) composting types and compost pile preparation. Two types of compost bins, pit and sheet composting, as well as vermicomposting, a technique that utilizes worms, will all be on the agenda. The attendees will learn when, how, and where to use this amendment, and Joseph Novak, Ph.D will be the facilitator for the workshop.
Classes like this may be appreciated by aspiring horticulturalists as they provide the chance to learn some new techniques. Horticulture cheat sheets and other learning materials for an activity will be available at area Stationery printers.
This introduction to the art and science of creating compost will begin at 8:30 am on March 23rd. The Garden is located at 6100 University Boulevard. The session is expected to wrap up at 11:30 am.Get a Free Quote for Stationery
