Annual Mexican celebration returns to Houston

The 13th annual Fiestas Patrias with Telemundo is taking place this month in Houston. It is a presentation of Telemundo Houston and Traders Village Houston.

Fiestas Patrias, or Dieciseis de Septiembre, is a national holiday in Mexico, celebrating the nation’s independence from Spain in 1825. It was first suggested by Fr. Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla's Grito de Delores that this be independence day, and today, the holiday is celebrated around the world by those of Mexican heritage.

The festival will feature a free musical concert, mariachi bands, and folk ballet. There will also be Aztec dances and plenty of people dressed up in their traditional costumes. Aztec dancers also have their own unique costumes with include large headdresses; they were once known as ‘concheros’ and their dances honor their ancestors. Of course, there will also be plenty of traditional Mexican foods to enjoy.

Admission to the festival is free of charge, but parking is $4 per vehicle.

This popular event is sure to attract many Houston and area residents. To help advertise it in the community, local flyer printing firms are often asked to provide marketing materials that can be easily and inexpensively distributed.

Fiestas Patrias will be held at Traders Village Houston on September 14 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. To learn more about this event, call 281-890-5500.
