Dual parks redevelopment in Fort Worth progressing

Plans for connecting Heritage Park and Paddock Park is moving forward with the North Texas Council of Government’s Regional Transportation Council authorizing $8 million for the Fort Worth project.

The authorization of these funds makes the project eligible for review of its architectural plans by the Texas Department of Transportation. An additional $2 million in matching funds will be provided by the city of Fort Worth. The resulting $10 million will be used by the city to build a pedestrian ramp connecting Paddock Park located on the Tarrant County Courthouse’s north side, down to the Trinity Riverbank and the Heritage Park.

The total redevelopment cost is estimated to be $50 million and be comprised of the aforementioned $10 million as well as money raised by Downtown Fort Worth Inc., a nonprofit, the city of Fort Worth and a number of private donors. Alcon, the Amon Carter Foundation, BNSF and Bell Helicopter are among the organizations that have provided support. Portland Mayor Mattie Parker and Tarrant County have also thrown their support behind the project.

Despite having finished the project’s conceptual designs, the architectural and engineering plans need to be reviewed by TxDOT. How long the review will take is unknown; however, fans of the renovations are glad that it is at least moving forward.
