Old Conroe road development back on track

Old Conroe Road’s development it set up to continue after many years of delay.

Eight months after city authorities shelved the $221-million development to redirect funding to urgently needed water supply, the Old Conroe Road expansion is back on schedule.

A contract to transfer the project, together with the engineering documentation and the rights-of-way the city had bought, to Montgomery County was authorized by council members.

According to the deal, the county would provide Conroe $3.4 million and give it to Charlie Riley, Precinct 2 Commissioner, who will be in charge of it. Riley said:

"We're going to get this thing moving again. We aren't going to put the brakes on it until it is done."

Commissioners will discuss the idea at their upcoming meeting, according to Riley. Riley stated that he intended to begin work on the northern portion of the project initially after approval. He said that the project is fantastic for Conroe and Montgomery County and congratulated the city for making a serious effort to get it underway. Poster printing can be used to set to up road signage.

When finished, the 5.7-mile project—the majority of which is outside Conroe's municipal limits—will build a bridge across Lake Creek and the San Jacinto River to link Sgt. Ed Holcombe Boulevard with Old Conroe Road.
