Stage Right's play "Of Mice and Men," based on the novel by John Steinbeck, will be the theater’s first show with the new seats. The first showing will be on Friday, February 6 and then it will run on weekends until February 22. The Young Texas Artists Music Competition is held at this theater every March, so this will also be one of the first items after the reopening. Flyer printing is one effective way of promoting an upcoming show, especially after a period of closure.
The Theater’s executive director, Melody Montez commented:
"Last week, the seating company removed all of the old seats. It was bittersweet to see them go. I have been with the Crighton Theatre for over 30 years and it was quite a shock to stand in the middle of an empty house."
Harry M. Crighton, the mayor of Conroe at the time, constructed the theater in 1934. Before an association of Conroe residents came together in 1979 to undertake a significant rehabilitation, the venue had been closed for a while and had fallen into poor condition.
Another significant restoration took place in 2020 when the lobby was extended into the nearby Muse Building, and more facilities were constructed downstairs.
