Philadelphia startup aims to profit from rock music

PredPop has decided to use a dashboard to help record companies and artists exploit data from fans of their music.

The startup began its work by producing a map of links between popular songs. Printing services offering flyer printing in areas surrounding Philadelphia, such as Turnersville, could perhaps be used to spread brand awareness of PredPop at gigs. Co-founder of the organization, Shelton Mercer, has told the Philadelphia Business Journal:

“These days, you see top hits that are being played during your favorite commercials, which didn’t used to happen. Brands are paying artists and labels because they’re saying they want the top music hits to be connected to our brands.”

In essence, PredPop has the intention of obtaining additional resources for artists. This has become an issue of concern for some people because of the impact of streaming platforms that are free to use.

PredPop has not charged consumers for using its service as yet. Nonetheless, the idea is that it will begin to do so early next year.

The business has looked at other methods of generating profits. The team at PredPop has revealed that one of the methods it wants to make use of, is to pass information on to advertising firms, eventually leading to the goal of getting royalties associated with advertisements.

Although the business was launched recently, it has reportedly attracted considerable interest already. Mercer has stated that Mashable and TED are backers of the project.
