The 13th Annual Million Dollar Bike Ride is set to take place in Philadelphia this June.
The event is organized by the Penn Medicine Orphan Disease Center (ODC) with the aim of raising funds for rare diseases. Each year, over 600 cyclists and volunteers come to the University of Pennsylvania's campus to participate in this event. The bike ride includes a range of distances to be covered across the greater Philadelphia region. These include 10-, 32-, 50-, or 72-mile rides.
More than $22 million has been raised to fund grants for various diseases by the Million Dollar Bike Ride's 30-plus teams. All these funds and research grants are directed toward the diseases they represent.
Some of this research is focused on orphan diseases, which are classified in the United States as affecting no more than 200,000 people. More than 7,000 rare diseases have been identified in the country. This means that one in 10 Americans is affected by them.
Some of the main sponsors for the event include Jazz Pharmaceuticals, eCure, and Rare Therapeutics. The organization ensures that 100% of its funds go toward these rare disease research initiatives.
High demand for poster and banner printing is often expected when promoting charitable events like this one. Registrations are now open for the race, which will be held at the UPenn campus.
The race is set to be held on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
