Philadelphia kids to learn about carnivorous plants

Carnivorous plants show how nature can adapt to almost any situation, and they will be the stars of the show for a Philadelphia area activity planned with kids in mind.

Philadelphia’s budding botanists may find the session that will explore the world of insect eating plants to be quite fascinating. It will explore how they have adapted to survive in soils with low nutrient levels, and species ranging from Venus flytraps to pitcher plants, sundews, bladderworts, and other types are all likely to be on the agenda for discussion.

Kids will learn about these plants through games and other types of play, and they will even have an opportunity to catch some insects themselves. Everyone will make a puppet they can take home with them, and they will also walk away with a live Venus flytrap plant for as long as supplies last.

Parents who register a child for the activity can choose to drop them off or remain on site. It will take place outside so long as the weather is favourable. Offering the kids in a plant-focused activity cards printed with some basic care tips can help them to look after their new green friend, and these can be prepared by area Stationery printers.

This opportunity to learn about the world of carnivorous flora will run from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon at the Burlington County Education Center on Sunday, July 16. Tickets are $15 each.
