Philadelphia invited to enjoy pierogi-filled festivities

Pierogis, the traditional fare from Eastern Europe made from dough-wrapped mashed potatoes, will be the star of the show during a Philadelphia festival.

The whole city is invited to head to the Port Richmond neighbourhood to enjoy the feast of this savory dish. Local eateries will be creating their own unique versions to include in the Port Richmond Pierogi Fest, and these may well go well beyond the basic recipe of potato, cheese, and dough. The festivities will be set up in Campbell Square, and admission to the event will be free of charge.

The feast is set to run for five hours, and along with a chance to enjoy as many pierogies as they wish, the attendees can learn how to make these savory dumplings for themselves. Live music, traditional Polish dancing, and a vendor alley are also all on the agenda, and a portion of the monies raised through the celebration will be used to help meet the maintenance expenses for Campbell square.

To help make the event even more fun, the planners have created two different festival T-Shirts. Both feature a special graphic design, and these can be ordered ahead of time or purchased on the day of the festival.

The Port Richmond Pierogi Fest is scheduled to welcome the public on May 16, by which time hopefully the current coronavirus concerns will have died down. Campbell Square can be found at 2535 E. Allegheny Avenue.
