Exhibit celebrates local Philly artist

The Barnes Foundation is presenting the exhibit ‘William Glackens’ for the next few months.

The artist, who died in 1938, was born in Philadelphia and this is the first major exhibition of his work in 50 years.

The exhibit, which is curated by Avis Berman, features 90 of the artists' works, including some that are in the Barnes Collection's permanent collection. It also includes several works on paper that have never been seen by the public. Some of the artworks included are ‘At Mouquin's’ from 1905 and ‘The Soda Fountain’ painted in 1935.

Glackens was also a friend of Albert C. Barnes and was influential in developing his taste in Impressionist art.

There are several events planned in December that are related to the exhibit. These includes two Docent talks for members only on December 12 and 19 from 12:00pm to 12:30pm. ‘William Glackens: Major Works and Sketchbooks’ on December 13 from 1:00pm to 3:30pm will feature an hour-long tour of the exhibit followed by viewing the artist's sketchbooks at the nearby Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Tickets for this event are $50 or $40 for members.

'William Glackens' will be on display at the Barnes Collection until February 2, 2015. Tickets to the exhibit only are $20 or $10 for members. Many locals who are employed by Philadelphia graphics or Print companies may want to visit this exhibit of the local artist.
