‘Down the Rabbit Hole: Celebrating 150 Years of Alice in Wonderland’ is continuing in Philadelphia for the next few months at the Rosenbach.
Last year was the 150th anniversary of ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ by Lewis Carroll, and this exhibition included the display of an original manuscript. It also describes the novels' connections to Philadelphia, as well as delving into Carroll's mathematical puzzles. There are displays of Books, illustrations, works of art and many original documents related to Alice.
There are also several events taking place so that visitors can enhance their experience. On January 21 from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Christopher Morgan will be talking about Carroll's puzzle and game pamphlets. Admission is $15 for the general public and includes admission to the library. There will also be two reading groups on January 24 and February. In addition, there is a hands-on tour taking place on January 27.
Those who live in Philadelphia and remember the Books affectionately will want to catch this exhibition before it leaves. Those who work for graphic design companies or local publishers may be especially interested.
Down the Rabbit Hole is on display at The Rosenbach at the Free Library of Philadelphia until May 15. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 pm. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for students and children over the age of five. Call 215-732-1600 for more information.
