Distance runners in the Gibsonia area will want to start training and dust off their running shoes, as a long-distance race is coming to break the thaw.
The 50th Annual Spring Thaw running event will provide runners in the area with several distance options they can register for. The event, which has been going since 1977, will take participants on a course that circles North Park Lake, starting at the North Park Boathouse.
The run began as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, giving runners in the Pittsburgh area a way to qualify and participate in the vaunted race. Over the years, it has grown into a multi-distance race celebrated with a post-race soup buffet dining experience. Banner printing is a potent way for sponsors and other small businesses in the area to generate impressions on attendees and runners at such events.
All runners will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt to commemorate their participation in the race, along with a finisher medal. Runners who finish the 10-, 15-, and 20-mile races will receive 50th-anniversary socks for their accomplishment.
The races will be held at the North Park Boathouse in Gibsonia. They are scheduled for Saturday, February 28 with the first race starting at 10:00 AM. Interested parties can choose which race they would like to run and register online.
