Doylestown’s Fonthill Castle will play host to a Fourth of July celebration its organizers hope will be a fun time for all.
A variety of activities have been planned for the day, with something for everyone. There is a full schedule of old style games and contests, including watermelon eating, a tug-o-war, sack races, a bucket brigade relay, a game of town ball and a cakewalk. Live music will be playing, and those who come out will have a chance to make some crafts to take home with them.
This year, for the first time, a pie baking contest will be held. A registration form for this can be found on the event’s website.
The public is welcome to bring along a picnic basket full of their favorite treats, and there will also be vendors on hand for those who wish to purchase a snack. The castle itself will also be open for self-guided tours. Variable Data printing can be used to send out personalized Invitations for events such as this to all of an organization’s supporting members.
The day will begin at 12:30 with a parade of children’s decorated bikes. Kids are encouraged to show their patriotism by making their bicycle as festive as possible, as prizes will be presented in several categories. The awards will be handed out by Henry Mercer himself.
The cost for the day is $5.00 for adults while those ages 15 and under will be admitted free of charge. More information can be found on the Mercer museum and Fonthill Caste website.
