Hospital expands with new center

It was announced on October 20 that a new inpatient pediatric unit is now operational at Doylestown Hospital.

After much anticipation, the Carol and Louis Della Penna Pediatric Center is now open. It was made possible by a gift from Doylestown residents Carol and Louis Della Penna.

The Della Pennas are longtime supporters of Doylestown Hospital. Louis is a steering committee member for The Friends of the Heart Institute and also sits on the Foundation Board of Doylestown Hospital.

The Della Penna Center will serve the inpatient pediatric needs of the community 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Prior to receiving the Della Penna’s generous gift, which enabled the opening of the new pediatric center, the hospital had been without an inpatient children’s unit. Although maternity services have placed a significant role in the hospital’s 90-year history, pediatric visits were generally limited to same-day surgical procedures and emergency care.

In addition to its Stationery printing needs, the new unit will also no doubt require printing services to produce the many handouts needed to keep the public informed of pediatric health issues.

The Della Penna Pediatric Center is on the third floor of Doylestown Hospital. The unit fosters a family-centered environment with features such as overnight in-room accommodation for parents, as well as a fully equipped playroom for young patients.
