Doylestown’s Fordhook Farm will be the site of Burpee Fest, an extravaganza of home gardening and food preparation put on by the W. Atlee Burpee & Co.
Burpee, the United States’ largest supplier of seeds, will provide a variety of fun activities as well as informative discussions hosted by gardeners, chefs, beekeepers, farmers, and horticulturists. Topics to be covered include gardening issues, tips, trends, and innovations.
The theme for the event is ‘Burpee Fest: Big Ideas Under the Big Tent’. George Ball, Chairman and CEO of Burpee, will be on hand to welcome gardeners of all ages and experience and reveal Burpee’s latest Top Ten new products prior to the 2016 Burpee seed catalog printing.
Morning events will include symposiums on a number of issues, such as pollinator population decline, effects, and potential problems associated with hybrids and GMOs, as well as growing the ideal tomato and flower breeding. The afternoon schedule will be filled with numerous demonstrations on gardening, cooking, preserving our bees and butterflies, and tips on photographing gardens and their bounty.
The public is invited to attend this free event 9:00 am to 4:00 pm this Saturday, August 15. The Fordhook Farm gardens and grounds will be open for the public to inspect at their leisure, with Burpee experts available to answer any gardening questions attendees may have.
