Road improvements slated for Delaware County

Recently, the commissioners of Delaware County agreed to improvements to North Road and Lewis Center Road.

It was determined last month that the intersection of North and Lewis Center roads needed improvement. Chris Bauserman, Delaware County's engineer, has decided that in order to improve traffic flow and safety in the area, it will be necessary to widen Lewis Center Road slightly, and reconstruct the intersection where Lewis Center Road meets North Road.

This measure was approved after Orange Township stated it was necessary for improvements to be made to North Road. Township officials also ordered Bauserman, in his capacity as county engineer, to prefer a number of documents about the project, including plans, surveys, profiles, estimates, cross-sections, and specifications.

At a recent meeting, Bauserman told the commissioners that IBI Group, which is based in Westerville, will be the agency preparing the requested plans and surveys.

The so-called ‘Construction Guide’ for 2016-2017 for Delaware County shows the North Road and Lewis Center Road improvements scheduled for 2018-2019. The guide says the project is estimated to cost $3m, which will come from township as well as county funds.

Since the project will undoubtedly take some time and result in a disruption of traffic, Lewis Center officials, as well as county authorities, might consider working with a flyer printing company on a mailer for area residents, describing the scope of work, and suggesting alternate routes for drivers.
