What's Happening in Lewis Center, OH…

Lewis Center citizen took 1st and 2nd place at 18th Annual Ice Festival

A local Lewis Center resident took home two prizes from the 18th Annual Ice Festival in Medina. Last month’s annual Ice Festival drew thousands of curious onlookers attempting to catch a glimpse of nearly 100 creative ice sculptures that were carefully carved from solid blocks of ice. The cool, windy weather of the late February weekend would seem to provide an ideal setting for the icy event. According to many participants, however, the above-freezing temperatures weren’t cool enough to prevent shattering and melting of the ice creations.

Lewis Center citizen Eric Pfaff not only took home second place on Saturday, he won first place on Sunday as well. His sculpture on Saturday was of an ant, while Sunday’s frozen creation was a goldfish. Pfaff, who is employed as a full-time chef and only does ice carvings as a hobby, stated that he was excited to take home two prizes.

Local events and activities are often advertised and announced to the public through various advertising methods. Printing services may be used to create flyers, posters or other means of advertisement for the event. Local print companies may also be called upon for brochure printing at such events.

Elegant Ice Creations, located at Broadview Heights, hosted Medina’s 18th Annual Ice Festival last month. Local businesses sponsored 60 of the sculptures, while an additional 36 carvings were added during the two contests over the weekend. Ice carvers of all levels participated in the event – from professional sculptors to hobbyists in high school and college who are just starting to “get their feet wet.” Entries in the competitions were judged on proportions, carving skills, textures, structure and design.
