Fall running event returns to Lewis Center

The Autumn Squatch 10k Trail Race is scheduled to occur in Lewis Center this November.

After an alleged sasquatch sighting occurred in Fall 2012 near the Rocks and Roots Trail, the Autumn Squatch 10k began as a way for Lewis Center residents to search for the legendary creature while getting fresh air and exercise.

Most years, this annual race proceeds as an in-person gathering. To follow the state and federal social distancing guidelines, the 2020 Autumn Squatch 10k will instead take place as a more casual trail run.

Lewis Center participants can run on the Rocks and Roots Trail on their own respective schedules throughout the month of November. Those who cannot complete their runs are welcome to complete a 10k on another route. All runners must track their progress with any GPS device and submit their results before the beginning of December. Organizers of similar running events frequently choose poster printing as an efficient way to inform locals as to race dates and details.

Tickets cost $40 per individual and can be purchased online. Hand-made wooden topographical maps of the Rocks and Roots Trail will be awarded to the top female and male finishers, the middle finisher, and the best female and male sweepers.

This year’s race will be held from Sunday, November 1 to Monday, November 30.
