Workshop in intervention techniques

A workshop is coming up to help train people who intervene with those who experience traumatic stress.

Critical Incident Stress Management Training is an intensive, three-day course that will teach attendees intervention techniques to use with healthcare professionals, EMS, fire department personnel, law enforcement officers, and others who deal with incidents that cause vivid reactions.

Instructors for the course are Lindi Holt, PhD, NRP, NCEE, and Kimble Richardson, M.S., LMHC, LCSW, LMFT, LCAC. Both are qualified instructors for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) and have more than 60 years’ experience between them in crisis intervention. They have participated in more than 800 CISM interventions, and responded to the Indiana State Fair Stage collapse, as well as the mass shooting at Fed Ex.

The instructors will lead participants through individual, small group, and large group interventions using various techniques. The training combines lectures and guided role-playing scenarios, and COVID-19 protocols at the time will be in effect. Everyone should bring a mask which will be worn if local guidelines require it.

The days begin at 8.00am and end at 4.30pm. Participants who complete the course will be given ICISF in Assisting Individuals In Crisis & Group Crisis Intervention certificates and QPR training. To qualify for the certificates, participants must attend the entire course, missing fewer than 30 minutes in total.

The training begins September 28 at 8.00am, at the Lebanon Police Department. Poster printing could be used to create visual aids for a course like this.
