Officially dubbed ‘Small Business Saturday’ the day was organized to encourage shoppers in the community to not only shop locally on this day, but all year around. When people shop locally, the money circulates throughout the community rather than going out of state or overseas. The money spent at small businesses in the community supports the local economy and jobs in the area.
Phillip S. Smith, who is CEO and president of the Warren County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, stated:
“Small businesses are the backbone of many of the towns in Warren County. We encourage visitors and local shoppers alike to shop small during the holidays, and year round, because when you shop locally and support small businesses, that money re-circulates here. ”
Events such as Small Business Saturday often serve as an incentive for local businesses to run various promotions and sales to attract an even wider customer base. Small stores and shops in the community may advertise with poster printing, flyer printing or even banner printing. Visitors’ bureaus in the community may even use brochure printers to provide shoppers with a pamphlet or guide to some of the best shops and diners in the area.
Small Business Saturday was created in 2010 by American Express as a way to help small stores, shops and boutiques compete with large retailers and businesses during the busiest shopping weekend of the year.
