A fire in an apartment building on July 8 was brought under control without any injuries, thanks to the ladder unit of the Lebanon Fire Department.
The incident occurred at 5:30 a.m., at a complex on Cincinnati Avenue, trapping Joey Ashcraft and his two sons, Josh and Hayden, in their apartment. According to Ashcraft, the heat was not intense, but the fire was blocking their exit.
Fire Chief Perry Gerome confirmed that the fire was burning outside their door, keeping them from evacuating that way. Instead, they went to their third-floor window and signaled for help. Firefighters raised a long ladder from the back of the hook-and-ladder unit, and the Ashcrafts were able to escape. Ashcraft and his sons, aged eight and ten, both thanked the firefighters for their rescue.
In total, 14 people were displaced by the blaze, which affected five apartments. The Red Cross provided assistance to the victims.
Despite the disruption, no one was injured in the fire. Seven people were examined and released at the scene by medical personnel. Gerome said the building's smoke detectors were working.
