The Lebanon Community School District board met May 15th and approved a number of measures, including designating new school principals, increasing the lunch fees, providing assistance to JROTC, adding new computer fees, and approving the 2014-2015 budget.
According to a May 22nd article, the budget for the upcoming year is $52,101,277, an increase of $2,800,763 from current figures. The rate of taxation, however, remains the same.
New principals are coming to Lebanon. Sabrina Alexander, who is the interim principal of Green Acres School, will become the permanent principal in July. She replaces Boon Setser, who left the school in January to become a law enforcement officer. At Hamilton Creek School, the new principal will be Eugene “Geno” Bates, who comes to Lebanon from the Nyssa Middle School in Nyssa, Oregon.
The board also approved a 25 cent increase in school lunch fees to offset the increasing costs of the recently-implemented federal lunch program. The rise will take effect this fall, with another similar increase expected next year.
The district plans to start a program whereby students can buy Google Chromebooks. The students will be able to use the computers for all four years, at which time they can turn them back to the district or purchase them.
The school district could work with brochure printers to devise a mailer for the city's residents, explaining the changes and introducing the new personnel.
