There are a number of hoagie shops in Lebanon, and another has opened, but with a twist—barbecue.
Biaggio's Premium Italian Hoagie has joined the ranks of sandwich shops that already includes DiNunzio's and Rocco's, all serving cold submarine sandwiches made with cheeses and meats, and served on fresh Philadelphia bread. Bill Hertzog, who owns Biaggio's, decided to depart from tradition and add a pulled pork sandwich to his menu.
Hertzog, it turns out, is also the owner of Bill's Open Pit BBQ, which shares the same premises as Biaggio's. The smoker is directly outside the back door, and Hertzog says he hopes to keep adding various barbecue items to the hoagie menu.
Bill's Open Pit BBQ is technically a separate company that caters special events. It sells St. Louis-style ribs, brisket, slow-smoked pulled pork, and barbecue chicken for groups of 35 and larger; he also caters fundraisers. Since the smoker is just outside the hoagie shop, he decided to see if people would enjoy a barbecue sandwich if he added it to the menu. Thus far, the idea has been a success, with Biaggio's selling as many pulled pork sandwiches as it does hoagies.
Biaggio's has been open with a limited menu since summer, but only recently decided to add the barbecue to the choices. Companies can distribute various types of Promotional Products to call attention to changes like this.
