Lebanon is actively seeking input from residents as it works to develop a master plan for its downtown area.
Officials kicked off the effort, called ‘Think! Downtown’, in March, with a ‘Listening and Learning’ workshop. They then organized a second workshop, ‘Focus on the Future’, in late June.
The entire process is expected to take about nine months, with its final objective being to devise a master plan for the development of the North Broadway corridor and the central business district. The project's steering committee comprises business leaders and residents who have been working with city officials and consultant PlanningNEXT. The group is making to be included in the master plan. Officials have made it clear that participation by residents is vital to the success of the plan.
At March's ‘Listening and Learning’ workshop, participants were given an orientation to the planning process, an overview of present conditions, and then took part in a directed discussion on ways to keep momentum going. Participants came up with hundreds of ideas for the city's future.
People who attended the subsequent June workshop were asked to prioritize recommendations based on the ideas that were brainstormed at the previous workshop. The feedback generated at the second meeting will be used to prepare the final version of the Downtown Master Plan.
