When students returned to the Lebanon City Schools in August, they found they had a little more space than before.
Additions were built to both Lebanon High School and Bowman Primary School, and were finished in time for the beginning of the current school year. An additional 10,000 square feet, containing seven classrooms, was added to Lebanon High School. Bowman increased by 14,000 square feet, which included 13 additional classrooms and two restrooms. In addition, some areas were repainted and had new flooring installed.
Funding for the projects came from the voters, who approved renovations and construction to a number of local schools via a November 2013 bond issue. The vote included the Bowman and high school work, as well as work on Donovan Elementary School, renovations of Berry Intermediate School, and the building of a junior high school from the ground up.
The projects have allowed school district officials to bring all the youngest children, from preschool through second grade, together at Bowman. Previously this school was used only by students in the first and second grades. Bringing these grades together means all the district's teachers and support staff are together, so they can serve the city's youngest learners more effectively.
School district officials could work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for district residents, explaining the construction work and how it will affect students.
