A cabin that dates back to the 1790s will be moved to Lebanon soon.
A log cabin that historians believe was part of Beedle's Station, an early settlement in Warren County, will be moved to Lebanon and rebuilt in the “culture corner” of the city. Beedle's Station is believed to be Warren County's first pioneer settlement.
At present, the cabin sits in back of the Lebanon Correctional Institution. Jenny Hildebrand, who is with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC), gave permission to county historians to tear down the cabin and rebuild it in Lebanon. The city's “culture corner” where the cabin will be located got its name because the block already is home to the local library, the museum of the historical society, and is across the street from the historic railroad station. Flyer printing can be used to share information about plans like this.
Victoria Van Harlingen, a local historian, has been working with state officials for four years, discussing the fate of the cabin. Recently, Ohio has been selling land around its prisons, prompting officials to consider the fate of the cabin again, and instigating a hunt for a new location for it.
The Lebanon City Council recently said it would support the plan as long as the move and reconstruction can be accomplished without using any funds from the city. In-kind contributions and donations will be used to complete the project, which will cost about $25,000.
