Community input considered in search for superintendent

Lebanon is looking for a new superintendent for its city schools, and the community has added considerable input to the process.

Superintendent Mark North resigned in March, at which time the Lebanon City School District Board of Education began the search for his replacement. As part of the process, the board engaged K-12 Business Consulting to oversee the effort.

The process got underway in April, when community forums and meetings with stakeholder focus groups took place. The meetings were designed to let K-12 hear what sort of experience, skills, and characteristics residents wanted the board to consider in the next superintendent.

Five traits emerged as being most important to the meetings' participants. They want the new superintendent to listen to the community, parents, and staff, and they want someone who has proven to be an effective communicator and can demonstrate the ability to build relationships and collaborate with others. Participants would also like the new leader to be able to handle the business end of the position, have a vision centered on the students, and be able to forge partnerships.

The first interviews are likely to be held May 25 and 26, with the final meetings June 1 and 2. Since the board has asked for community input, it might consider creating Flyers to mail out to keep people advised of the progress of the selection process.
