Auto company to drive forward in Lebanon

ADVICS, which manufactures auto parts, is expanding its Lebanon operations.

The company will build a new facility in which it will manufacture an all-new brake component never before made in North America. The project will take three to four years and cost $150.5m, but it will also create approximately 260 jobs. The figure includes new equipment, as well as the new construction. This project comes on the heels of a $100m expansion the company did last year, which created 100 jobs and added new equipment.

Plans for the new facility are to build a third production building, comprising some 216,000 square feet, on the company's Lebanon campus, located on Kingsview Drive. The electronic brake system that will be built there has previously only been built in Japan. The part is an electronic parking brake, which was first put on luxury cars but is now becoming standard. Most vehicles today have either a pedal on the floor, or a lever, that sets the parking brake. The advantage of the electronic model is that it applies a consistent amount of pressure to the rear rotor, making the brake more reliable.

ADVICS, which aims to employ local workers and be a good corporate citizen, could create Brochures that describe the new brake system, and explain the qualifications it needs in new employees, before making the information available to local job recruiters.
