Hamilton City Council has settled on a plan for moving the city’s 19th-century train station, despite some councilmember concerns.
The selected plan is that proposed by Wolfe House Movers of Indiana LLC at a cost of $656,000. The winning contract’s strategy is to raise the station’s two structures from three to four feet above ground and then lift the building’s upper areas while they are transported to a city-owned property on Maple Avenue.
Once the station’s buildings have arrived at their new location, brick masons, as of yet to be contracted, will reconstruct the brickwork for the bottom few feet of the train station. It has not been determined whether original or new bricks will be used for the structures’ completion.
Projecting a professional image is important in obtaining work contracts, and the Logo Design a company selects can play a key role in how it is perceived by potential clients.
Councilmembers Susan Vaughn and Carla Fiehrer have expressed concerns regarding the cost of relocating and restoring the Cincinnati, Hamilton & Dayton Railroad built station. It is the hope of city officials that once the station has been moved and its base is stabilized, it will be eligible for historic tax credits that can then go toward further renovations.
The vote to implement the Wolf House relocation plan was 4-2 in favour, with Vaughn and Fiehrer casting the dissenting votes.
