Miami Hamilton gets $1.3M grant for students

Miami University Hamilton is to receive one of the biggest regional federal grants in recent history for the purpose setting up a joint city schools program that will assist numerous needy high school students in preparing for their future.

This new “Upward Bound”, $1.3 million federal grant, is the largest since 2010 for either of Miami’s regional campuses. The money will be used to construct several programs at Hamilton City Schools. The purpose of these programs is to assist low-income students in being ready to further their education after high school or be prepared to immediately start on a career path.

Three hundred Hamilton high school students will benefit over the course of the five-year grant, which will provide $256,996 annually. The school has a counselor to student ratio of 1 to 325 students; however, Upward Bound students will be meeting with their coach weekly at the very least. Informing the public of how a grant such as this will be utilized and the benefits provided by programs like these would likely involve a brochure printing service.

The grant will be good for Miami University Hamilton since a significant number of its approximately 3,000 students are residents of Hamilton. The funds will ensure the campus has students in the future who are better prepared than they might be otherwise.
