Hamiltons smart traffic-signal system to speed traffic flow

City officials received good news recently, learning a $4.2m grant is coming to the city in 2022 to provide a “smart” system for controlling traffic lights to accommodate traffic conditions.

The huge Spooky Nook Sports Champion Mill will undoubtedly be a boon for the city’s economy, bringing large numbers of visitors to Hamilton. However, it will also bring many additional cars to the community’s already near capacity street system.

Spooky Nook will be the biggest indoor sports complex in North America and the accompanying traffic is one of the greatest concerns residents here have. It is estimated that once in operation Spooky Nook will draw in over 10,000 athletes on some weekends, along with their families.

Large developments such as apartment complexes, convention centers or sports complexes often advertise using banner printing or Brochures to attract and sign up clients or tenants prior to the completion of the project.

The traffic light system will notify the city in the event of a lightning strike or crash that renders an intersection’s signals inoperable. Key intersections will even have battery backups to keep those signals working. Signal timing adjustments for the rate of traffic at an intersection can be made remotely

The Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments grant money is expected to pay 80% of costs for the project with the city paying the remainder. Installation for all of the intersections will likely take between 18 months and two years to complete.
