Hamilton and MetroParks team up on Miami-to-Miami trail

The City of Hamilton and MetroPark Butler County are joining forces to complete four projects rolled into one to build the combined 1.56 miles of the 17 miles needed to join the Little Miami River Scenic Trail and the Great Miami bikeway.

According to Hamilton Senior Civil Engineer Allen Messer, there are actually four projects being undertaken to build the trail connection. The two trail extensions and two utility relocations are being combined to be viewed as a single venture.

Printing services are often called upon by park services and chambers of commerce to provide maps of recreation areas.

The most expensive part of the overall project will be moving the 24-inch wide, 5,800 feet of sanitary sewers (which should start in June 2021), and relocating natural-gas mains.

The sewer lines will cost an estimated $3m, but over time the cost will be slowly mitigated. Currently, about 7% of all the city’s storm water is going into the sanitary sewer and is unnecessarily treated.

Dealing with the 12-inch-wide, 3,300 feet of natural-gas lines is expected to extend from July 2021 to March 2022 and cost $575,000.

Hamilton’s 0.72 miles and the MetroParks 0.84-mile segment will begin in March 2022 and should be finished in November 2022. Hamilton’s portion is anticipated to cost $750,000, while MetroParks piece is expected to cost $1.36m. This difference is mostly due to the larger number of bridges to be built.
